A prayer offered at Central United Church, Sarnia, Ontario on July 22 2012
Lord of all times and places,
the soundtrack of this week has been filled with violence:
shootings in Toronto,
a massacre in Colorado,
rebels and government troops still fighting in Syria.
Lord Jesus,
you know the suffering
human beings can inflict upon each other.
Our hearts cry out to you
— for the victims,
— for the families who mourn,
–for the innocent who suffer in war,
and for a way forward that will heal wounded spirits,
mend broken lives,
restore sanity to those who are so deeply troubled
that they choose to do evil to others.
Resurrected and resurrecting LOrd,
you offer us a way of
truth-telling
forgiving,
reconciling,
loving even when it costs.
Overcome our own woundedness
that makes us resist your Spirit’s work in our lives.
then, make us the
truth-tellers,
forgivers,
reconcilers,
lovers
that you need in this place
in this time
for the people we meet day by day.
We pray in your holy name.
